I am one of them and I thoroughly enjoyed this book this experience? The book begins with an introduction by Jony Ive. It is a relief that Apple released him from his white bunker, if only to write an introduction for a book.

Aside from the introduction, labels, and some manufacturing definitions, the book is completely devoid of words. The rest of the book is filled with gorgeous photos of Apple products, starting with the colorful iMac, and ending with the Apple Pencil. In constructing their new spaceship campus, Apple spared no expenses and cut no corners.

The rationale there was that every employee walking into work every morning would be reminded that attention to detail is at the heart of everything Apple does. In that same spirit, this book is as meticulous as it gets. This meant Apple needed to source special near-white paper and white ink dubbed ghost ink , all to create the perfect canvas for their product photos. The only criticism I have for the book is their approach to product photography.

I suspect that a lot of lighting and digital editing was made, resulting in products that look surreal — and not a good way. The G5 label on the internals of the Power Mac G5 look like they were added in Photoshop, accompanied by a bizarre gradient overlay.

Throughout the book, shadows are unrealistic, light reflects of logos with a sharp edge, and the displays are so crisp. Any immersion you had is now gone. Nothing seems to exist like you expect them to, instead they seem to exist in some ethereal realm, away from the laws of physics and the imperfection of ours.

Dec 11, Zhang Stanley added it. This is a picture book. That is why Jon Ivy must print a physical book instead of digital version. It marks the current state of technology. What I learnt, not sure if it's true, is that they used a printer that can print money for the printing of this book. Which further means that this book is not easy to come together in the first place.

Apple really took things seriously and they definitely put in effort. So not likely they gonna have a reprint or anything. I won't buy the book because of its content, however, I would buy the book for its appreciating value in the future, provided I have the money, hahaha. May 20, James Thibault rated it it was amazing. This book is simply hundreds of beautiful photos of classic and modern up through the iPhone 6 or 7 Apple products, with very little actual reading.

It is an objective representation of our work that, ironically, describes who we are. It describes how we work, our values, our preoccupations and our goals.

We have always hoped to be defined by what we do rather than by what we say. We strive, with varying degrees of success, to define objects that appear effortless. Objects that appear so simple, coherent and inevitable that there could be no rational alternative. The hardbound book was designed and published by Apple and is available in two sizes.
